Family Physicians
Normally the first point of contact with the health care system. Focus is on prevention, early detection and treatment of general health care problems through regular physical examination. For diagnosis and treatment of specific conditions, family physicians may refer patients to a specialist.

Specialists are physicians who have special training and expertise in one clinical area of practice which focuses on a specific age group (e.g., geriatrics, pediatrics), an organ or system of the body (e.g., internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology) or on complex scientific techniques developed to diagnose or treat certain types of disorders (e.g., nuclear medicine, radiology).

Patients cannot see a specialist unless they have a referral from a family doctor.
